Clio

Clio is the "Swiss army knife" of cloud based time/billing and case management systems.  On the one hand, it includes all of the functionality you need to run a small law firm - document assembly and document management, centralized matter centric calendar, task and contact management integrated with Outlook, GMail or Office 365, matter centric email tracking, time tracking, billing and invoicing linked to Lawpay, accounts receivable, trust accounting, everything except general ledger and check writing.  Clio can integrate with Quickbooks or Xero for the last two functions.  More importantly, Clio's open API means that you can add extreme levels of functionality by linking Clio to literally dozens of other applications.  Some integrations are: AltLegal to automate an IP practice, Apptoto to automatically remind clients via email, text or phone of upcoming court appointments, CaseMail for secure on-demand Proof of Service Notices, Click to File and Chrometa mentioned elsewhere on this site, Directive Communications to help Trust and Estate attorneys organize and handle client accounts and directives, Lexicata for on-line client intake, PrimaFacie to automate document production in an Immigration practice, Smokeball for advanced document and email automation, and Zapier which lets you create macros (called "zaps") that can automate almost any process you can think of, EVEN processes that involve multiple applications like Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, or Quickbooks On-Line.
